Licensed, trauma-focused care in North Dakota

The Mind path is where licensed professionals do their work, and this page is for families in North Dakota who want to find one close to home. Every person listed below is a licensed mental health clinician in North Dakota who completed the training, supervised cases and consultation required to appear on the official Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) Provider Roster, a public list kept by the therapy’s developers. CPT is one of the trauma-focused talk therapies that the VA’s National Center for PTSD recommends for post-traumatic stress. It is usually twelve sessions, in person or by secure video, and it focuses on the beliefs that keep a person stuck after trauma.

We then matched each name against the federal National Provider Identifier (NPI) Registry, which records the clinician’s credential, license number and practice location, and we kept only active records. The NPI number on each card links to that public record so you can check it yourself. None of the 13 clinicians here currently hold the roster's optional Quality Provider status; that status is not required to practice CPT well.

Who is not on this page, and why

Clinicians employed by the VA, the Department of Defense, state agencies or correctional systems are not listed individually, because the public reaches them through those agencies rather than through a private practice. Use the VA and Vet Center locators below for that route. We also leave out anyone we could not match to an active NPI record, anyone without a phone, email or website, and anyone whose public materials make promises no licensed clinician would make.

What to ask on a first call

  • Do you currently have openings, and do you offer sessions by video for families outside Bismarck, Fargo, Minot, West Fargo?
  • Do you accept my insurance, TRICARE or VA Community Care, or offer a sliding scale?
  • Do you see spouses, partners or children of Veterans, together or separately?
  • What does a typical course of CPT look like with you, and how will we know it is helping?

A clinician who answers these questions plainly is giving you a good sign. If the first person you call is full, ask whom they would recommend; most clinicians on this roster know one another. When you have someone in place, the next step in the founder’s method is the Relationships path.
